
The East Pakistan University of Engineering and Technology (EPUET) was founded in 1962, its origins lying in the Dacca Survey School, which as established in 1876, which had offered two-year surveying and engineering courses. Upon achieving university status in 1962, a partnership was made with USAID and with the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, USA, to assist in the planning of the new courses and curriculum. Architecture was amongst the initial courses offered by the new university. After the Liberation War of 1971, the university changed its name to Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
